Established in 1980, the first recipient of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation (“NMTI”) was granted the honor in 1985. The NMTI is the highest honor in the nation for technological achievement and is presented by the President of the United States. NMTI was created to recognize individuals, teams, and companies for their contributions to the United States through innovation. The medal is meant to inspire future inventors to pursue technical careers to keep America at the forefront of global technology and economic leadership.
