Low’s legacy lives on. Juliette Gordon Low, Founder of the Girl Guides, the organization that transformed into the Girl Scouts, was a woman of culture, charity, and Intellectual Property. Forming the Girl Guides based on her own interest in the arts, self-direction in wood- and metal working , and commitment to bettering her community and helping her neighbors, Low created the group and patented the Girl Scout’ s iconic trefoil badge in 1914. The design was influenced by the Boy Scout badge, with the similarity between the two serving as a well-placed statement advocating for equality between boys and girls.

Today, Low’s legacy lives on the iconic Trefoil badge and shape of the famous Trefoil cookie, and a closer look at the woman behind the design reveals the foundation for the lasting ideals of the Girl Scouts organization. Source: A patent for girls’ empowerment | USPTO
